The Ron Montero Festival is an annual event commemorating what was once the end of the harvest season, and celebrating the history, culture, gastronomy and local rum cocktail traditions.
It takes place in Motril (Granada, Spain) during the 6,7 and 8th of June.
In the area known as Costa Tropical, in Motril, the cultivation of sugarcane has been key for centuries. It first came with the Moorish conquest in the 10th century and continued until 2006, when the last harvest took place. This ancient tradition in the region has left an important legacy and excellent rum, and without a doubt it represents an additional tourism incentive for theCosta Tropical.
Ron Montero symbolizes that age-old heritage and this unique event aims to present Motril and Costa Tropical as the European land of sugar cane. Costa Tropical is a unique destination in the world where the ancient culture of sugar cane and rum are the stars.
Touristic trails to discover Motril: you will get to know its squares, parks, museums and the Ron Montero distillery. You can find monderos (traditional cane cutters) delivering cane sticks throughout various corners of the city with their small cane mills that will offer Guarapo (sugar cane juice) with Ron Montero.
